YLE | Implementation of a modern user interface

Yle Areena

Yle Areena is one of the most valued online brands of Finnish Internet television and radio. Adage participated in the Yle Areena redesign.

OBJECTIVE

Yle is constantly improving the Yle Areena service and programme guide. The goal was to enhance the user experience across a variety of devices, to better collect the material related to individual programmes, and hasten the further development of the services.

SOLUTION

The new Yle Areena adjusts responsively to different devices. Registered users can follow their favourite series in the service. The service utilises the new API interfaces in the background systems, facilitating more agile development of the online service. Adage participated in the implementation of Areena’s user interface as a part of the project team with Yle and their subcontractors.

For a long time the most watched show on Yle Areena has been Ryhmä Hau (Group Hau) from the children’s show Pikku Kakkonen. The episodes get as many spectators online as on TV, and weekly online views are continuously close to 100,000.

Yle is a trailblazer of web services, a visionary online operator, and an engine of TV’s transition to digital broadcasting. The new Yle programme guide Yle Areena was beta released in autumn 2014, and the full version came in to use in spring 2015. The development work continues.
